I admit I have been a bit of a slacker lately. First, there was the big combo graduation/birthday party to set up, host and recover from. Work related things have also been a little hectic and brain-draining lately. We spent a weekend shopping for and putting together a whole new office. And then it just got so hot. So hot that even sitting in the living room with a fan blasting in my face didn’t help for longer than a few minutes and holding a book was just too much work.
Most of all though, I think I am suffering from what I have dubbed “Amazonian Paralysis”. Right next to me as I type are about $150 bucks worth of gift cards to the great online book orgy that is amazon.com. And I am freaking out with the thought of what to get. It may seem like a lot of money but $100 goes quick, especially when it is not really money or actually coming out of my pocket.
Do I spend it on the third Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo book even though I would only read it to finish the trilogy and not because I actually give a flying farfegnugen about what happens? Or the new memoir by local girl Jaycee Dugard that I keep hearing about on the news and am fighting the desire to read? Do I bother to finally read the Twilight books just to see what the fuss is about even though the movies bored me to death? Or do I go through my goodreads.com “to read” list? Or maybe splurge on some goofy chick lit?
See? I can’t figure it out. It’s too much pressure. There are too many options.
So instead of making a decision, I grabbed The Russian Concubine , a book I snagged from my mom’s giant collection and while back, and dove in. I’m about a quarter of the way in and so far it’s pretty…ok. I’ll have more to say about it when I finish.
Hopefully by then the paralysis will have abated and I’ll at least be able to log onto amazing without going numb….
